Perfect Peaks Brews- The Why

Perfect Peaks Brews.

Perfect Peaks Brews is an independent nano brewing operation based in Cascais Portugal. Motivated by my love for outdoor adventure and endurance sports and respect for the craft brewing industry. I wanted to create a beer to be  drunk celebrating that camaraderie and convivial moment  laughing and teasing with friends after a shared experience.  A lifestyle beer a post surf sunset,  a BBQ or a recovery after trail run or cycling beer.

Cascais Sintra and  greater Lisbon coast naturally propose's an adventurous outdoor lifestyle. Where else do you wake up thinking What uun things shall we do today?  Surfing, Ocean Swimming, Hiking, Trail Running, Kite, Sailing, Rock Climbing all froms of cycling the list and opportunity seem endless... . All these activities deserve the PerfectPeaksMoment.

The #perfectpeaksmoment. The body relaxes as in transitions from an adrenaline fueled "Flight or Fight" state to a relaxed nano-adrenalin "Feed and Breed" state.  Watching sunsets as last few waves of the day break, or mountain scapes take on the golden and red hues, resting aching muscles or simply relaxing chatting with friends.

Why create a independent beer

Drinking with friends after endurance and action sports in the Swiss and French Alpes. I always thought these moments merit something special an alternative to the  ubiquitous, anemic commoditised beers.  Wine was to strong in alcohol and satiating a thirst with wine left me tired and drunk. Water seemed so pallid fizzy sodas were impossibly sweet. Beer seemed to be the answer but I needed it to have flavour, be lower in carbonation.  After travelling in the UK tasting real pale ales and witnessing the birth of the craft ale movement while surfing in California and Australia.  I learnt it would be possible to create my own beer  using only natural ingredients and traditional brewing processes.

After home brewing for a few years the standard IPA's I reacted against the trend of most bitter and strongest in Alcohol. I personally found the "arms race" of bitterness  and strength in % made craft beer impossible for a lot of people. I want  a couple of beer after sport or watching the sunset as the end of my activity but not be inebriated, this was just the start of my evening. I wanted to celebrate the day but not ruin tomorrow.

In doing so we have created 3 crafted beers, each reflecting the fundamental flavours of beer. Our Golden Ale highlights the complex floral, herbal and fruit flavours of hops. Our Red Ale highlights the warm comforting caramel and  toffee flavours of  crystal or kilned malts. Our Black Ale reflects the coffee and chocolate nuances of roasted grain.
We choose to keep our craft beer simple and smooth, and they serve and a great introduction a "a gateway" to the wonderful world of craft beer. Take your preference as far as you can, like the fruity herbal flavours of our Golden Ale  try IPA's Double IPA's. Like the roasted nature of our Black Ale try Imperial Stouts and Pastry Stouts ...yes black beers with  sweetness  and dessert like flavours added. Tempted by a Pecan Mud Cake stout?

Craft Beer as a Recovery drink

Craft beer has become a popular choice for athletes as a way to celebrate and recover after sport. Our craft beers are brewed with natural ingredients that are rich in carbohydrates and electrolytes, which can help restore energy and rehydrate the body after a workout.

Camille Herron drinks beer during her ultra marathon trail running races. Famously saying "Haha, yesss! It actually happened by accident. I was feeling nauseated one time in a hot trail race. Nothing was working to make me feel better. We’d gotten a 6 pack of Rogue Dead Guy Ale for after the race. My husband offered me a beer, and boom — I popped out of the chair and got back running! I broke the course record by 27 minutes! It’s my magic elixir now in ultras."

In addition, craft beer can be a great way to socialize and relax after a tough workout or competition. Many athletes enjoy sharing a beer with their teammates or friends as a way to celebrate their accomplishments and bond over their shared love of sport.

Overall, craft beer can be a fun and enjoyable way to celebrate and recover after sport, but it should be consumed responsibly and in moderation.  While studying I did a module on Toxicolgy the golden rule of Toxicology has always stayed with me

"All things are poison, and nothing is without poison; the dosage alone makes it so a thing is not a poison." —Paracelsus, 1538

We want you out there enjoying #perfectpeakscountry and many more #perfectpeaksmoments.
